Farmers, truckers and workers from the Taranto steel plant have joined hands and are protesting in the southern Italian regions of Apulia (Puglia), Calabria, and Sicily, setting up roadblocks. A blockade of the refinery in Taranto has already led to fuel shortages in all three regions. The government has called for a meeting on Oct. 27, but truckers say this is too late. The problem for truckers is a lack of liquidity to pay for increased fuel prices. Many truckers carry food items, which will be lost if the work stoppage continues.
At the same time, students and school workers have held demonstrations in many Italian cities. The students are calling for more money for the school system and no money for wars. Clashes with the police occurred in Turin and Bologna. The “Fridays for Future” zombies have been deployed in an attempt to manipulate the protest.
The mass strike across Europe continues to spread.
