The situation in Albania is very serious. Officially 310 have been injured to date (191 police, 88 protestors, 31 bystanders). Prime Minister Edi Rama had decided to crack down on the demonstrations that have been ongoing for 136 days, with brutal force. For five months, students, young families and many others, between 500- 200,000 have demonstrated every day in Tirana. with the main message, “ Albania is not for sale.” The population has been very dissatisfied for some time with the economic situation, forcing around 1 million people over the last 10 years to leave the country.
The Albanian Prime Minister works closely with Georg Soros and his son Alexander Soros, who has called Edi Rama his brother. The recent uproar in the population was caused, when the news was made public that Jared Kushner had bought Sazan Island and the protected area, Zvernec in May this year. The government enacted three laws in 2024 that give investors handpicked by the Prime Minister the right to buy protected mountain and land areas for strategic investment. Land and mountain property can be bought for one Euro by investors to build luxury hotels and tourist resorts. Atlantic Invitation Partners LLC, affiliate of Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners, has been granted strategic investor status. Many thousands of Albanians who since the fall of the communist system had been struggling to get titles to their property have been left with nothing.
Albania’s Prime Minister has, besides his connection to Soros, a good connection to Netanyahu and Rabbi Yashiyahu Pinto. When Edi Rama attended the “ international Conference on Combating Antisemitism” in Tel Aviv on Jan. 26, 2026, Netanyahu and Rama had a one to one meeting. Netanyahu praised Rama as a great friend of Israel and personal friend, while the Israeli genocide against Palestinians was ongoing and signed a memorandum of understanding.
In June 2026 a new air force academy was opened in Tirana. Edi Rama said “the training is going to be done by Israel.” Edi Rama accused the demonstrators in the beginning of being Iranian agents. The population has lost any trust in Edi Rama or the opposition. When the special police were sent to the streets and universities for around one week, to beat up the youth, the population got totally united, accusing the police of using disproportionate force.
