The Schiller Institute issued a brief statement today in support of the struggle of Italian farmers, fishermen and truck drivers.
The international Schiller Institute supports the struggle of Italian farmers, fishermen, and truck drivers affected by the consequences of an economic policy that is leading to the destruction of productive activities throughout Europe. In Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and France, citizens are taking to the streets with different demands, but they are all united by opposition to policies that divert resources away from social services and production, while allocating more and more to rearmament and the financing of the war in Ukraine—a war that is not ours and that, moreover, has drawn us into a state of co-belligerence and exposed us to retaliation by Russia.
We hope that the pressure exerted by farmers, fishermen, transport workers, and all other groups on strike across Europe will force governments to demand a shift in EU policy. We demand that resources be redirected away from rearmament and war, and toward adequate support for producers; and that we return to stable, low-cost energy supplies. We will not stop until we have achieved our goals.
