Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, has been on a working visit to Chad as part of Algeria’s effort to build an axis for security and economic development in the Sahel-Sahara region. Serving as a special envoy of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Attaf met with his Chadian counterpart, Ahmed Kogri, according to a ministry statement. Attaf also held talks with Chadian President Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to whom he presented a letter on behalf of the Algerian President.

The purpose of the visit was to review progress of the implementation of some 27 agreements signed over the past year. In a statement released after the meeting of the two foreign ministers, he “welcomed the progress made in implementing the commitments agreed upon by the presidents of both countries.”

“Both parties agreed on the need to strengthen the momentum of bilateral cooperation through an in-depth assessment of its various areas and optimal preparation for upcoming bilateral meetings, with a view to elevating the Algerian-Chadian partnership to higher levels.”
