Despite the modest overtures of peace talks, European powers are pushing hard to continue the confrontation with Russia. Britain and France are preparing for a military exercise in Poland that will begin on Nov. 9 and run for almost a month, in preparation for a hypothetical deployment to Ukraine to assist the Ukrainian military and re-establish air control.

The deployment is called the Multinational Force-Ukraine (MNF-U), and is known as “the military component” of the Coalition of the Willing. Some 300 British troops and more than 2,000 from 10 partner nations will take part in what is known as Exercise Koalicja—an exercise that will not include the U.S., Sky News reported Nov. 3.

UK Defense Secretary Wes Streeting said: “This exercise shows the UK is stepping up, alongside France and our allies, to prepare for the day peace comes to Ukraine. This isn’t a hypothetical plan, it’s a real force, ready to help Ukraine once the fighting stops.”
