Germany has named army chief Christian Freuding to become Germany’s defense chief, replacing Carsten Breuer, who will take over as the chairman of NATO’s military committee next year. Freuding’s main claim to fame is that he oversaw Germany’s supplying of weapons and military materiel to the Kiev regime from 2022 until he became head of the Bundeswehr in October 2025. According to the Financial Times, he founded the special unit that helped source and pay for weapons for Ukraine, travelling frequently to Kiev and beyond. He later took on an additional role as the head of the defense ministry’s new division for planning and command staff.
