In the wake of the sweeping victories over Donald Trump’s Republican Party in the U.S. midterm elections, Israel’s opposition is tying them to the rejection of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Yair Golan, head of Israel’s opposition Democrats party, said on X Nov. 4 that the midterm results “reveal just how toxic Netanyahu is among both Democrats and Republicans.” He warned that keeping Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in office could bring “international sanctions, international isolation, and a clash with the U.S.” He called for the swift formation of a “government of change.”

Yair Lapid, head of Israel’s opposition Yesh Atid party, said the results “rule out any possibility of a unity government led by Netanyahu. Israel cannot afford to let him remain prime minister. It endangers our security, it endangers democracy, and it will destroy our standing in the world.”
