Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Emaeil Baghaei cautioned in an April 30 interview with IRNA TV against expecting diplomatic efforts to yield quick results. “You should not expect that within a short period of time, after an extraordinarily bloody war, which was not a conventional or ordinary war, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the people of Iran, having fought two regimes armed with nuclear weapons, two exceptionally ruthless regimes whose brutality we witnessed over the past two and a half years in the crimes of Gaza and Lebanon, can quickly reach a result,” he said. “You fought one side whose leader is being pursued by the International Criminal Court on charges of genocide, and on the other side, you fought one whose record is also well known even within America itself.

“With this reality, expecting us to reach an outcome in a short time, regardless of who the mediator may be, does not seem very realistic to me.”
