On Friday, Nov. 1, President of the World Surgical Foundation Mark Perlmutter was slated to speak at an event at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. The event, hosted by Medical Students For Justice In Palestine, was titled, “Healthcare in War Zones: What a Doctor Witnessed in Gaza.” Since returning from a life-saving mission in Gaza in April, Perlmutter has received repeated death-threats.
Days prior to the event, an Instagram account named “physicians-against-antisemitism2” decried the hospital for hosting the event, and claimed that it was “sure to be rife with misinformation.” With no notice, the event was canceled the same day with no explanation.
Upon learning of this flagrant and aggressive censorship, Independent LaRouche candidates in New York for Congress Jose Vega (Bronx, CD15) and U.S. Senate Diane Sare organized a new venue and hosted a new event on an emergency schedule, ensuring and amplifying the success of Perlmutter’s Sept. 16 event. The candidates thereby demonstrated the authority of their intention continually to declare their independence from the fraudulent electoral process currently underway in the State of New York. The audience’s appreciation for the role of the candidates was clear.
A video version of his Nov. 1 testimony will be circulated in the coming days.
As noted by a LaRouche organizer in the audience, “the power” of Perlmutter’s harrowing, expert testimony “is indisputable” because it is not an ideological matter. The photographic evidence accompanied by Perlmutter’s humane narration absolutely transcends any potential or actual ideological differences within global political discourse. It is simply the eyewitness testimony of a human being to the evident commission of countless war crimes in Gaza.
As Perlmutter remarked throughout his presentation, in his various open letters to government officials in the United States, he has made it a point to remain strictly “non-sectarian” even to the point of biting his tongue with regard to his views about the political ideology of Zionism.
The LaRouche organizer further recommended that the small event the independent candidates pulled together be grown into a much larger event at a “way bigger space” with a simultaneous online stream, where “you do it like you’re doing a Nuremberg Tribunal.” Indeed, Perlmutter’s presentation can be seen as the evidentiary basis for an increasingly necessary “Operation Nuremberg,” that must be undertaken by the “Fourth Branch of the Government,” namely, the people; the people, despite their so-called leaders, can simply “let the man give his testimony.” Both independent candidates reiterated this call.
The event itself was attended by dozens of medical students from Mount Sinai Hospital, as well as practicing physicians, and activists associated with both Sare’s and Vega’s campaigns.
