Within 24 hours after the shocking endorsement by Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens of Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers on Sunday, the Senate campaign of Abdul El-Sayed was flooded with over 65,000 individual contributions, totaling over $2.4 million, including over 29,000 contributions from first-time donors. According to the Washington Post, the El-Sayed campaign reported that the average contribution was $37.
An El-Sayed campaign spokesperson, Cole Wozniak, is quoted in the Post as saying, “This record-breaking grassroots fundraising haul is a testament to the excitement that Abdul’s movement has inspired in the hearts of Michiganders—and a rejection of the status quo politics that’s left Michigan behind for far too long.”
