“Every country has got a right to expect that they should have security,” former President of Guyana Donald Ramotar stated in a Feb. 3 exclusive interview with EIR News. With the Feb. 5 deadline for the end of the New START arms-control treaty between the U.S. and Russia rapidly approaching, President Ramotar warned of the looming danger of global thermonuclear war: “The consciousness of the people is lagging behind the danger. And that is why what EIR is doing is so very important to try to lift awareness of people on the danger.”
Ramotar stressed that we cannot be innocent bystanders in the face of this problem: “We owe it to future generations” to mobilize. He stressed that peace and development must go hand-in-hand, and he pointed to the Jan. 12 Declaration, “Let Us Create a Movement of World Citizens!” of which he is one of the initiating signers. He urged listeners to also sign the petition, and to participate in the upcoming March 2 conference of that group.
