The construction of the “Solidarity” power plant in Niger promised by Algeria will be completed within three months, according to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who spoke on May 3 during a meeting of the Algerian Council of Ministers. Tebboune described the project as an “historic achievement” and a symbol of strengthened cooperation between the two countries. The 40 MW gas-fired power plant, with two turbines, will supply electricity to Niger’s capital, Niamey.
In March, the leaders of the two countries laid the foundation stone at a ceremony during the official visit of the Algerian Prime Minister to Niger. This followed on the announcement in February by Tebboune that the Niger section of the Transsahara Gas Pipeline would be completed. The agreement for the power plant was first reached in February 2025, when the Algerian state company Sonelgaz announced it would construct it.
