Merz Met Baltic States' Leaders, Committing to More Militarization, Even Nuclear

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz today in Berlin hosted the leaders of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, pledging more military build up. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda even praised his parliament’s first steps toward permitting stationing nuclear weapons in its borders.

Merz struck the theme of readiness to combat Russia. He said, “The threat is not abstract; it is very real on NATO’s eastern flank….Moscow is testing how united and determined NATO is.
