Yesterday, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez joined his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in inaugurating the opening session of the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing. Invited as China’s guest of honor, Fernandez was the only Ibero-American to address the gathering. On the same day, the Argentine Senate voted unanimously to approve Argentina’s entry into the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). And, as reported Sept. 3 by the daily Dangdai, Argentine ambassador in Beijing, Luis Maria Kreckler, reports as well that very shortly, Argentina will officially sign on to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The BRI, Kreckler said, “is one of the most important initiatives internationally and provides enormous opportunities in the area of infrastructure, both in transportation, energy and telecommunications as well as in financing.” Fernandez has also been invited to attend the early-November Shanghai International Import Expo as a special guest. It is likely he will attend personally.
