Italy: Mass Testing ‘Bonsai’-Style

The village of Novi Velia, population 2,300, in the Southern Italian province of Salerno, has introduced a full lockdown until Nov. 20 with mass-testing. The recent government executive order introduced red, orange and yellow areas nationwide, but allows a margin of discretion to local administrators. A local official said they are able to do 100 tests per day. Testing the entire population of Novi Velia will thus take 23 days. This is far from the standard set by Slovakia, but Novi Velia will use molecular tests, which are more accurate though slower. The experiment has drawn national attention.
