A review of the Oct. 4-10 Central American Space Week and the First Central American and Caribbean Forum on Russia-Latin America Space Cooperation on Oct. 6, makes clear that the Russian Federation and its Roscosmos space agency were central to the success of these events and to ensuring that Central Americans, and especially youth, have the opportunity to participate in the international space effort and reap the benefits of that for their lives on Earth.
The three-hour Oct. 6 webinar, Central American and Caribbean Forum on Russia-Latin America Space Cooperation, was organized from Guatemala, with the active participation of Russian Ambassador Alexandr Khokholikov. Other speakers included the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin (along with other Roscosmos officials); Nikolai Frolov, director of the Center for Scientific-Technological and Innovation Cooperation with Ibero-American Nations of the State University of Southwestern Russia; Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee. Sen. Sergey Kislyak, former Ambassador to the U.S., and now First Vice President of Russia’s Federation Council (the upper house of Russia’s bicameral Federal Assembly), also participated. Representatives of Paraguay’s and Mexico’s space agencies attended as well.
