U.S. COVID Cases Double in One Month, Hospitalizations Expected To Rise, Nursing Crisis Acute

The number of new COVID-19 cases in the month of November was 4.2 million, more than double the October level of 1.95 million. Since Nov. 4, according to NBC, there have been 100,000 new cases per day; on Nov. 27, the country surpassed 13 million total confirmed cases—six days after reaching 12 million cases. According to the Minnesota-based Center for Infectious Disease and Research Policy (CIDRAP), founded by epidemiologist Dr. Michael Osterholm (PhD DPH), as of yesterday there were 96,039 people hospitalized with COVID, up from 93,214 the day before, and the numbers are expected to rise steadily according to the COVID Tracking Project. November also saw the most COVID-19 fatalities in the U.S. since last May. As of yesterday, total U.S. deaths amounted to 267,596.

Many health professionals are bracing for a worse COVID surge, based on the fact that many Americans ignored warnings to stay home over the Thanksgiving holiday and traveled to visit their families. Almost 1.2 million Americans passed through U.S. airports on Nov. 29, AP reported.
