NY State's Attorney General Exposes Gov. Cuomo's Cover-up of Nursing Home Deaths

The New York State attorney general, Letitia James, on Thursday issued a report saying that the death toll in the state’s nursing homes from COVID-19 was far worse than officials had disclosed — by as much as 50%. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is infamous for sending COVID patients back into nursing homes from the overcrowded hospitals. The figure for nursing home deaths used by the Cuomo administration has been about 8,700. But investigators surveyed more than 60 nursing homes and found large discrepancies between the number of deaths recorded and numbers previously reported by state officials. The AG’s office says it is still “investigating those circumstances where the discrepancies cannot reasonably be accounted for,” according to a statement in the report. “A larger number of nursing home residents died from COVID-19 than [New York Department of Health] data reflected,” the preliminary report concluded.
