Azov Sea Not Included in Russian Closing of Select Black Sea Waters

Three areas of the Black Sea will be closed to foreign military vessels by Russia from April 24 to October 31, RIA Novosti reports, quoting the Ministry of Defense’s bulletin. A series of military exercises will be held by Russian armed forces during this period.

The waters to be closed for foreign warships and non-commercial vessels include an area along the Crimean coast between Sevastopol and Gurzuf, a rectangular area near the Kerch Peninsula, and a small area near the west coast of Crimea. The Kerch Strait and Azov Sea, as well as the approaching fairways, are not subject to the restriction and will be used as usual.
