The Kiev regime is scare-mongering against Russia again. In the presence of the head of the American Jamestown Foundation Glen Howard, Deputy Prime Minister for the Temporarily Occupied Territories of the country Oleksiy Reznikov declared yesterday that Russia is preparing to place nuclear weapons in Crimea. “Russia has already occupied the Azov Sea in fact and totally changed the balance in the Black Sea; it has completely militarized it. We are especially concerned by the actions of the Russian Federation aiming to prepare Crimea for deployment of the nuclear weapon there,” Reznikov said yesterday, reported the 112.International news outlet.
The Russian Foreign Ministry dismissed Reznikov’s statement as unserious. “It is traditional for the Foreign Ministry to comment on serious things,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told TASS yesterday.
Reznikov also suggested that Ukraine would be ready to host U.S. troops and air defense systems to defend against the alleged Russian threat. “It is important to expand the security package for Ukraine,” Reznikov said, RT reported. “First of all, with the stationing of air defense forces, and even by deploying American units.”
Leonid Slutsky, the chairman of the State Duma’s Committee for International Affairs, wrote on his Telegram channel that the deployment of U.S. military units in Ukraine near the border with Russia would be highly provocative. “Their emergence [of such air defense systems] close to Russia’s borders will undoubtedly evoke Moscow’s response. Tensions will merely soar,” Slutsky warned. “It is regrettable that Ukraine’s laws allow for stripping it of what is still left of its sovereignty, and its citizens, of a chance to live in security. Ukrainian politicians are ready to sacrifice all this to prolong their participation in the anti-Russia project,” Slutsky said.
