President Joe Biden plans to convene a virtual meeting on COVID-19 during this week’s UN General Assembly opening sessions, on Sept. 22, with the stated intention being to boost vaccinations globally, and end the COVID pandemic by 2022. The initiative has the air of a public relations booster shot for the U.S. image of concern. Although Biden will be in New York on Sept. 20-21 to address world leaders at the UNGA, the COVID-19 virtual summit will be convened from the White House.
As reported by Reuters, “White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the United States will be asking participants to commit to ‘a higher level of ambition’ on making vaccines available on a more equitable basis and getting shots in arms, among other steps recommended to address the pandemic….
