A leading Chinese economic official told EIR today that the current energy crisis in China is definitely part of the global crisis, related to the shortage of coal and the dramatic price increases. The disruption of production as a result, he said, “may slow down China’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The current plans for 2030 and 2060 may prove to be too harsh, not realistic. If it causes social disruptions, it will be changed.” He said this was a “big concern” for the Nov. 1-12 COP26 climate conference in Glasgow.
