The death toll had reached 25 by mid-afternoon, after multiple explosions were set off today near the entrance to Kabul’s Daoud Khan Military Hospital, located in the area where foreign diplomatic missions are located. Dozens of other casualties are reported. The hospital, with 400 beds, is one of the largest in the country, Tass reports, operated by Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry, but it also functions as a teaching hospital, according to CNN. Afghan media are reporting that this attack—which comes in the midst of the general collapse of the nation’s health and hospital system—was carried out by the militants of the Islamic State in Khorasan.
