Russia Space Chief Rogozin: Russia Will Fly More Missions to Its Own Station

Russia’s Space chief, Dmitry Rogozin, announced today that the frequency of flights to a future Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) will be higher than the current missions to the International Space Station (ISS), and said Russia was developing a new spacecraft. “The frequency of flights will be higher, and that is why it [a spacecraft] must be cheaper,” the Roscosmos Administrator said after a Nov. 29 ceremony to present the Russian government’s Yuri Gagarin Space Awards for 2021.

Rogozin said that he had instructed the Chief Designer of the Energia Space Rocket Corporation, Vladimir Soloyov, to consider creating a universal crewed and resupply ship called Orlyonok for flights to the ROSS. “The Energia Space Rocket Corporation will necessarily outline both the ROSS architecture, and how to fly there,” he pointed out.
