Bavaria Takes Some Action Against COVID-19 Pandemic

Being the first among Germany’s 16 state governments, the Bavarian one has decided to act to remedy the shortage of hospital beds and care personnel. Hospital beds (number not specified) will be transferred from qualified hospitals to those that focus on pandemic treatment; the same or personnel. Funds for this, including compensation for hospitals that provide such beds and personnel, will be provided by the state government as well as health insurance. Personnel for ICUs will receive a salary increase of 100 percent for 2022 as recognition of the special workload they are burdened with, and nurses who have children to take care of will be relieved by special child care arrangements so that they can continue to work at hospitals. Additional tax cuts will make work as a nurse more attractive and halt the trend of personnel quitting their job, which has, because of the general shortage of nurses, created an overload of work for those who stay on their jobs.
