It is time to “potentially think about mandatory vaccination within the European Union,” EU Commission head Ursula von der Leyen told journalists. “This needs discussion, this needs a common approach, but I think it’s a discussion that has to be led.”
More definite than Von der Leyen was Olaf Scholz, who will assume his position as German Chancellor on Dec. 6. In several appearances on German television Wednesday night, Scholz said that he wants to make a mandatory vaccination against Covid-19 possible as soon as possible, and accelerate vaccinations in general to 1.25 million shots daily.
