India, a nation of 1.4 billion people, has maintained levels of new Covid cases for months at around 6,000/day. Last week the figure climbed to 18,500/day, with Sunday’s total at 33,800. Monday’s 37,100, along with Tuesday’s surge of 58,000, make it clear that the tidal wave hitting Europe and North America has reared its ugly head in India. Positivity levels in the country, steady around 1%, have shot up to 5% in the last couple of days. Around 40% of all the country’s cases are presently found in Mumbai and Delhi.
