On Friday, Leondios Kostrikis, professor of biological sciences at the University of Cyprus, reported laboratory findings of a strain of the COVID-19 coronavirus with Omicron-like genetic signatures within Delta genomes. He tagged it “Deltacron” and reported that his team had discovered 25 cases there. He sent his findings to the international database, GISAID. He turned down the opportunity to feed scare stories, saying that he expected Deltacron would not supercede Omicron.
