China Abstained on UNSC Vote To Denounce Russia; Stressed Real Security Concerns, Dialogue

At this afternoon’s UN Security Council session called on Ukraine, in the debate on a resolution to denounce Russia, the Chinese envoy abstained from voting on the resolution, and explained carefully how the Ukraine situation should be seen. There is an “interplay of forces” which must be understood. The security of any nation cannot be at the expense of other nations. Security is indivisible. There have been “five successive rounds” of NATO expansion toward Russia. Russia has legitimate security concerns which must be met. “Ukraine should become a bridge between East and West,” and not what it is now.
