Russia Responds to War Hysteria with Ridicule

Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy told reporters in New York yesterday that those who insist that if Russia doesn’t invade Ukraine it will be because of U.S. pressure, need a doctor. Here’s the exchange as reported in the transcript posted by Russia’s UN mission:

Q: What would you say to people who say that your troops pulling out is the result of pressure put on you by the U.S. and NATO?

A: I think I forecast it three weeks ago. I mean that somebody would say it was the result of pressure on Russia. Nothing is happening, and nothing was. But they need to claim credit for what allegedly has happened. It is up to them.

Q: Why now? What needs to happen now, for long-term issues?

A: I think they need to have a good doctor – specializing in such paranoid cases.
