U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan this morning on CNN TV began his interview by addressing the host’s loaded question, when will Russia invade Ukraine, by a string of maybes, saying that, “we’re in the window,” and “any day now,” and maybe “after the Olympics,” which ends Feb. 20. To the question, where’s your evidence that Russia will commit a false flag pretext to invade, Sullivan asserted several points, including that such a false flag, “would be consistent with the Russian playbook,” and that U.S. allies are providing information on it. When the host pointed out that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had said that U.S. statements and actions are creating panic, Sullivan snidely replied that, “Only one country has amassed 100,000 troops on Ukraine’s border.” He said that the U.S. is trying to tell Ukraine and allies to prepare. “We’re not going to give Russia the opportunity for a surprise.”
Later today, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova issued an opinion of Sullivan’s statements on Facebook, saying that, “The world knows who lies all the time,” after she quoted from Sullivan as saying “Russia is laying the groundwork to have the option of fabricating the pretext for an invasion.” She then recounted at length the story of then U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell’s speech to the UN Security Council on Feb. 5, 2003, in his “ill-famed address,” making what were lies about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction. She gave extensive details on this, recommending the 2004 report by a team led by Charles Duelfer, Special Advisor to the CIA Director on Iraqi WMD, which “ended the farce” of all the lies. “They concluded that no remotely substantial amounts of WMD had been found in Iraq.” She recommended “that Mr. Sullivan watch that address in his native language.” (https://bit.ly/3rKLvEg)
