Consortium News’ Robert Parry Exposed Support for Azov in 2015

Robert Parry, the late American intelligence professional and founder of what became Consortium News, showed the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015 admitting that the post-coup regime in Ukraine relied heavily on Nazi storm troopers to carry out its bloody war against ethnic Russians.

Parry wrote an expose in Consortium News titled, “When U.S. House Saw Ukraine’s Neo-Nazis.” His story went directly up against and debunked a long article by the New York Times describing the event in a very different way: When Russian rebels were closing in on the Ukrainian port of Mariupol, the Times rhapsodized on the courageous Azov Battalion facing down the “barbarians at the gate”. These heroes, Parry wrote in 2015, were Nazis, some even wearing swastikas — the SS symbol which became the symbol of the Azov Battalion.

The article reports the numerous mischaracterizations of Azov, and gives short shrift to the heroic Russian defenders. In December2015, the amendment barring funding to Azov was removed from the 2016 House Appropriations Act.
