Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a joint press appearance in Manama, Bahrain yesterday with his Bahraini counterpart, charged that NATO has refused to respect Russia’s security initiatives in a bid to rule the entire world. “This situation showed that our Western partners prefer to conduct business on the basis of diktat and their unbending conviction that they are destined to rule the world rather than on the basis of equality and the principles of the UN Charter, including the principle of respect for the sovereign equality of all countries,” he said, according to the Foreign Ministry transcript .
Lavrov added that Russia will continue to defend the principles of international law and the UN Charter, which the West violates by all means while promoting the concept of unipolarity. “Instead of international law, they put forward the concept of a rules-based order. According to this concept, the West is making every decision with NATO (no longer a defensive alliance by any stretch of the imagination) as it plays the role of global policeman. NATO provides global security, including, as they say, in the Indo-Pacific region, and it openly declares the need to contain China and Russia. The concept of a rules-based order suggests that Western dominance is built on the United States calling all the shots,” the Russian foreign minister explained.
Lavrov continued on the same theme today during a meeting with Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Ibrahim Taha. “Of course, these processes [in the world] are at a turning point,” Lavrov said. “The formation of a multipolar world is underway, and our Western colleagues are trying to prevent these processes, they want to maintain and extend their dominance to all regions. They are trying to mobilize all other countries to come under their flag, using the situation in Ukraine and around it as a pretext.”
