Moldova’s parliament has banned Russian news broadcasts and introduced fines for “disinformation.” Russian entertainment programs will be allowed. 50% of foreign TV broadcasts must be originally produced in Canada, the U.S. or the EU.
Some 76% of the Moldova population speak Romanian and 10% of the 2.7 million population speak Russian, mostly in Transnistria, the strip of land between the Dniester River and the eastern border with Ukraine. Several thousand Russian troops are stationed there.
