U.S. Cold Feet on China Conflict over Taiwan Just Yet?

Following reports that Speaker of the U.S. House Nancy Pelosi is planning a trip to Taiwan in the upcoming weeks, President Joe Biden stated on Wednesday that the U.S. military doesn’t think that’s a good idea.

“Well, I think that the military thinks it’s not a good idea right now,” Biden said in response to a question from the press about Pelosi’s reported trip. “But I don’t know what the status of it is.” He stopped short of saying that she should not go.

Biden told reporters a bit later in the same press conference, “I think I’ll be talking to President Xi within the next 10 days.”
