On Aug. 18, the Center for Renewing America, led by former Trump OMB Director Russ Vought, posted a call for the break up of “a partisan, weaponized FBI.” While the “history of abuses” list only begins with the Russia Hoax of the 2016 election, it was the Aug. 8 “Raid which crossed the Rubicon” at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate which tilted the scales.
The call (not a petition) includes three “actions” which must be taken “to restore faith in the institution:” Establishing a modern-day Church Committee as a “stand-alone committee affording due process to members of the minority party"; Conditioning funding on implementation of major reforms; and finally, the impeachment of both Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
