India's Jaishankar at United Nations on the Future of India and Multilateralism

“India is celebrating 75 years of its independence,” exclaimed Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, “millions of ordinary Indians ... are rejuvenating a society pillaged by centuries of foreign attacks and colonialism.”

What sort of rejuvenation? On Independence Day, the Modi government made five pledges for India’s future. The first is that the people are “resolved to make India a developed country in the next 25 years.” Secondly, “we will liberate ourselves from a colonial mindset,” the minister explained.
