A crisis in egg production and distribution which is now hitting the U.S. with full force has been building throughout the year. While in a few locations, like Iowa, which is the largest egg producer in the country, citizens knew how serious the situation was getting, in the rest of the country a pervasive “wartime censorship” mentality kept the multiple factors causing the problem from being publicized by major news outlets.

Now it can no longer be kept under wraps, that the average price of a dozen eggs is $8, and rising; and in many locations, including farm states, eggs are disappearing from the stores. A reader of EIR in Pierre, South Dakota, reported that the local Walmart did not have a single carton of eggs on its empty shelves; while more and more states are now chasing the effects of Avian flu, as it had been spreading in the United Kingdom—where restaurants are shutting because of the disappearance of eggs—and other parts of Europe for a longer period.

In the same way the Biden Administration plus its adversaries in the anti-vaxxer camp lied to the U.S. public, claiming that COVID had taken its course, and top-down policies (dubbed “mandates” to make them sound threatening) could all be canceled, the same deluded public officials are dragging their feet on presenting the veterinary public-health measures which are required to get Avian flu under control. On Nov. 3, the CDC reported that bird flu outbreaks were spreading: “Since early 2022, more than 49 million birds in 46 states have either died as a result of bird flu…or have been culled…due to exposure to infected birds. This number is nearing the 50.5 million birds in 21 states that were affected by the largest bird flu outbreak that occurred in 2015.” The CDC report recommended that bird owners and handlers wash their hands and clothing—hardly a program for victory.
