William Arkin, journalist for Newsweek, who has been engaged in ferreting out government secrets for more than 20 years, published a list of exercises that the Pentagon plans to engage in during 2023, including the months they will occur. His list, broken down by command and by month, amounts to 110 major exercises involving some 60 countries. According to the chart Arkin provided in an article in his special platform, “Bill’s Black Box of Government Secrets,” 22 of these exercises are slated for U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and 19 of them for European Command. “But Africa"—where 10 major exercises are planned—"is also a new playground for the American military, with so many games hiding U.S. military activity on the continent,” Arkin notes. U.S. Central Command has 12 exercises planned, while U.S. Northern Command has 13.
