The revelation from acclaimed journalist Seymour Hersh, that the U.S. was behind the explosions which hit the Nord Stream pipelines, raises issues which open the potential to end the war in Ukraine before it escalates to a thermonuclear showdown between the United States and Russia, Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche argued in her weekly international webcast Feb. 15. “I think if anybody wants to stop the war, wants to throw a monkey wrench into the dynamic,” Zepp-LaRouche stated, “then the idea that the whole thing has to be investigated is one of the most important steps to possibly get to a diplomatic solution and stop the war drive! Because we are very, very close to World War III, and anything which stops that dynamic is super-urgent.”
As NATO defense ministers were meeting on Feb. 14, there were signs of deep problems within the alliance, including the lack of an industrial base needed for the long war to weaken Russia that many had intended. Hersh’s reporting not only makes Germany a “global laughingstock” over its silence and inability to defend its security and economic interests, but it also makes clear that the attack on Nord Stream was an “act of war,” exhibiting the recklessness of the Global NATO policy, Zepp-LaRouche stated.
This is fueling a mobilization of anti-war forces around the world, with a potential to break through the “left-right” profiles that keep opponents of the war divided. Zepp-LaRouche urged viewers to join the marches and demonstrations being organized in many cities in numerous countries, with the flagship “Rage Against the War Machine” rally set to get underway at noon on Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
“We are approaching World War III rapidly,” Zepp-LaRouche emphasized, “and therefore the demand to stop immediately and have negotiations, have a diplomatic solution, which is the main focus of these demonstrations, is becoming super-urgent.”
Zepp-LaRouche also announced that the Schiller Institute will sponsor Zoom meetings in the next two weeks, one on the broader implications of the Hersh story, the other on the urgency of breaking the sanctions policy increasing the death and suffering in earthquake-racked Syria. “We should demand, and everybody who is a decent human being should demand, an immediate lifting of the Caesar sanctions,” she stated.
Zepp-LaRouche concluded her webcast by reviewing her thinking behind her drafting of the Ten Principles for a New International Security and Development Architecture to create a durable peace. These are not a laundry list of policy points, she said, but the basis of the kind of deliberative process which engages people in the manner of philosophical thinking which can produce the transformation in the population necessary for such a durable peace.
