The head of the FdI faction in the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Tommaso Foti, has filed a draft bill for reinstating a Glass-Steagall type of banking separation. The bill is sponsored by Foti and 14 party colleagues, including former Economics Minister Giulio Tremonti. Notably, Tremonti had filed a similar bill in the past.
Foti has acted independently from his Fdl party leader, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, although Meloni herself had also filed a similar bill in 2018. “Parliamentary initiatives are distinct from government ones,” Foti told Reuters, which seems particularly interested in the initiative.
