Patrushev: Elimination of Depleted Uranium Supplied to Ukraine ‘Resulted in a Radioactive Cloud’ Moving West

As Russian President Putin had warned in March, Russia would be “forced to react” to British plans to supply depleted uranium shells to Ukraine. Following his March 21-22 meetings with Xi Jinping at the Kremlin, Putin had told journalists on March 22: “If all this happens, Russia will have to respond accordingly, given that the West collectively is already beginning to use weapons with a nuclear component.” Putin did not elaborate further, but there are unconfirmed reports that a May 16 Russian strike on an ammunition storage facility in Ukraine housing the depleted uranium shells led to a massive blast.

Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolay Patrushev, stated at a conference in Syktyvkar on May 19 that this has “resulted in a radioactive cloud moving towards Western Europe,” according to TASS. Patrushev’s comments on the strike came in the context of the G7 meeting over May 19-21 in Hiroshima. He mentioned Biden’s commitment to “common democratic values,” and how “the heads of Western countries under U.S. pressure will also discuss aid to Ukraine.” He went on to say that “the Americans have ‘helped’ other countries in this way more than once in history.”

“They ‘helped’ Ukraine too, by putting pressure on their satellites and supplying depleted uranium munitions. Their elimination has caused a radioactive cloud that is now moving towards Western Europe. An increase in radiation levels has already been registered in Poland,” Patrushev said.

Patrushev also noted on Friday that “the U.S. is developing and already using chemical and biological weapons, including in Ukraine.” He then took the occasion of the G7 meeting in Hiroshima to remind people that the United States is the only nation to have deployed nuclear weapons, which he stated as causing “disastrous consequences and the death of a huge number of civilians.”

“They didn’t apologize! And they are not going to apologize for what they have done. They keep brainwashing the Japanese to make them think that it was the Soviet Union, not the United States, that used nuclear weapons against them,” Patrushev stated. “That’s what American aid and democracy is all about!”

While Patrushev appears to not have explicitly mentioned the United Kingdom’s role in supplying the depleted uranium, it is important to remember that the British have played the leading role in fomenting the present conflict in Ukraine. It must also be remembered that Lyndon LaRouche has long insisted that the U.S. dropping of atomic weapons on Japan was done at the insistence of the British Empire. The “special relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom was forged in the aftermath of those needless deaths in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the ensuing era of nuclear warfare was an essential component of the Iron Curtain and the Cold War.
