The U.S. military presence in Europe is growing. The U.S. and Spanish governments announced on May 8 an agreement for the addition of two Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyers to the four already home ported in Rota, Spain. Under the new agreement, the U.S. can host six naval warships at Naval Station Rota. The agreement between the two countries follows a commitment last summer to allow the U.S. to increase the number of ships, USNI News reported, citing Reuters.

Meanwhile, ten A-10 attack aircraft have deployed to Europe in support of the U.S. Army Europe’s Defender Europe 23 exercise. The aircraft are to be split between Zaragoza, Spain and Thessaloniki, Greece. Six C-17 cargo aircraft and three C-130s are to follow, to be based mainly in Aviano, Italy.
