Global Times reported today, following talks between their military chiefs on June 9, that Russia will participate in a military drill organized by China, with observers saying that China-Russia joint strategic exercises could become routine.
Liu Zhenli, a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and the Chief of Staff at the Joint Staff Department of the CMC, and Valery Gerasimov, Russia’s First Deputy Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, had a video conference on June 9, in which they exchanged views on the implementation of consensus reached by the two heads of state and the deepening of cooperation between the two militaries, China’s Ministry of National Defense said in a press release on June 9.
The two sides confirmed together that Russia will respond to an invitation by China and participate in the Northern/Interaction-2023 exercise organized by China, according to the press release.
