Green Exit from Coal Mining Endangers Water Supply for Berlin

The greenie-motivated exit from lignite mining in the eastern German Lausitz region is the main source of water scarcity in the Spree River that supplies the German capital Berlin with fresh water. This fact emerges from findings in a new report by the Federal German Office of Environment. Half of the water which the Spree has, originates in water pumped out of the coal mines, and if the mining stops—already caused by reduced mining now and definitely after the planned final exit from coal mining in 2038, or maybe already in 2035, the pumping will stop, too.
