Cambodian Prime Minister Appeals to Biden and Zelenskyy Not To Use Cluster Munitions

Drawing on the painful history of his nation, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has called on U.S. President Biden and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy not to use cluster munitions in Ukraine. The United States dropped the weapons in the 1970s during its shameful war in Southeast Asia, and the weapons continue to cause casualties to this date.

“It has been more than half a century. There have been no means to destroy them all yet,” Hun Sun said. Cambodia continues its clearance efforts to remove the landmines and unexploded ordnance, with the aim of eliminating them by 2025.

“I appeal to the U.S. President as the supplier and the Ukrainian President as the recipient not to use cluster bombs in the war because the real victims will be Ukrainians,” he appealed.
