New Survey Shows German Mittelstand Deindustrializing, Seeking To Go Abroad, or Selling Out

A newly released survey by the Federal Association of Mittelstand Companies (BVMW) shows a dramatic trend: 26% of all enterprises in this sector consider selling out or downscaling production; another 22% think about shifting production to countries abroad.

The prime cause of this deindustrialization is too many bureaucratic regulations (a good part of those being green ones), as cited by one third of companies. A quarter of companies sees high taxes (also here, greenie regulations play a role) as a leading cause. Another quarter complains about the lack of qualified workers.
