The Tragic Toll of U.S. Drug Overdose Deaths

The San Francisco Chronicle released today a nationwide database to track drug overdose deaths in the U.S. per 100,000, by county. According to compiled data, over 1,000,000 people have died since 1999 with 107,669 deaths last year, 73,654 from fentanyl. The worst hit area has been Baltimore, Maryland, with 174.1 deaths per 100,000. The next four in order were: Davidson County, Tennessee at 101.5; Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania at 88.5; Marion County, Indiana at 84.1; Washington, D.C. at 77.9.
