Rousseff Uses Grand Inga Dam As Example at BRICS Summit

In her address to the BRICS-Plus/Africa summit, New Development Bank President Dilma Rousseff spoke of the need for new modes of financing cross-country, inter-regional infrastructure projects, using the Grand Inga Dam as the example.

The Grand Inga dam complex is a proposed series of hydroelectric dams on the Congo River with an enormous combined capacity of over 40,000 MW. It is among the projects discussed in the Schiller Institute Report Extending the New Silk Road to West Asia and Africa.

Rousseff:

“…there are many challenges to overcome. One of them is related, as I said, to the expansion of financing mechanisms, notably using local currencies and other financial instruments that may be created, so that we set up a new financial system, which is more multilateral and inclusive.
