The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Arab League are not alone in making the case for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open an investigation into the Netanyahu government in Israel for war crimes.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has joined Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in his call for the ICC to take action to hold Israel accountable for actions tantamount to genocide. On Nov. 7, Tebboune, referencing the brutal massacres, the unjust and strict siege that violates the principles of international humanitarian law, had asked: “Where is humanity? And where is the global conscience that has become absent regarding the genocide being committed?” Petro announced on X two days later that Colombia “will contribute to the complaint by the Republic of Algeria” for war crimes, filed before the ICC against Netanyahu.” He reported that his Foreign Minister Alvaro Leyva was scheduled to meet with ICC prosecutors on Nov. 8 to formally press charges against Netanyahu over “the massacre of the Palestinian people’s children and civilians he has caused.”
On Nov. 8, three Palestinian rights groups—Al Haq, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights—filed an official request for the ICC to open an investigation into Israel’s military campaign, focusing particularly on IDF airstrikes against densely populated civilian areas of Gaza, and its siege and displacement of the population. “These actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, including genocide and incitement to genocide,” they said in a joint press statement, Reuters reported.
